Studio
City is located in the South East quadrant of the San Fernando Valley only
15 miles from downtown Los Angeles. It is bordered on the west by
Sherman Oaks, on the east by Burbank and on the north by Valley Village. Like the other communities
along the South perimeter of the San Fernando Valley, real estate prices
are at a premium. Studio City commands some of the highest priced real
estate in the San Fernando Valley as a result of its close proximity to
major freeways and canyon routes that allow quick access to the Los
Angeles basin. Studio City is ideally situated for living, working or
relaxing in the Los Angeles area. Real Estate prices in Studio City start
high and go up from there. Single family homes in the area have a median price of
$800,000. Because of the hilly nature South of Ventura Blvd. many homes take in great Valley views. Studio City has a
population of 26,000 people and encompasses an area of 5 square miles. |

Prior
to the early 1920’s, the area was used mainly for agricultural
purposes, much like the rest of the Valley. The communities nature changed
in the early 1920’s. Mack Sennett had outgrown his studio facilities in
what would later become Silverlake, so the man behind the wacky Keystone
Cops built a new facility near Ventura Boulevard and Laurel Canyon.
He started calling the community "Studio City", and the name
stuck. Some of the sound stages Sennett built have been in continuous use since
then and they now house CBS Television. Shortly after the construction of
the studios, Studio City received the Valleys first traffic light at
Lankershim and Ventura Blvd. The first airfield in the San Fernando Valley
was constructed on land that is now the corner of Fulton and
Ventura Blvd. The community was basically created by the movie industry. The
list of stars tied in with the different studios over the years reads like
a who’s who of old Hollywood. Even today I can attest to hitting golf balls at the
local driving range and having people like Sylvestor Stallone, Clint
Eastwood, Will Smith and Rob Lowe just a few stalls down.
Today the
community retains its “Bohemian” aura with its many artists, writers,
movie-hopefuls, musicians, playhouses, antique stores and coffee shops.
